Measuring IR success is no easy feat
Demonstrating IR success is often referred to as the Holy Grail of the profession. Many of the goals of IR teams, like transparency, accessibility and credibility, are naturally hard to quantify. Other objectives, such as attracting investors, analysts or liquidity, are hard to control. Companies can work toward these targets, but the market will ultimately make its own decisions about where to allocate capital and attention.
Companies approach the measurement of IR success in different ways. Some adopt clear, quantifiable targets. Others prefer an informal approach, based on casual conversations with key stakeholders. On top of this, success metrics will look different in different sectors and market-cap bands.
