Picking your tools
Companies have an array of potential means by which to train employees, and the survey indicates that many use a variety of both face-to-face and virtual tools. Overall, the most frequently cited method is online self-guided courses, mentioned by 77 percent of respondents. That is followed by live (either in-person or online) presentations (60 percent), online educational resources (58 percent), videos (50 percent), real-life examples (33 percent), blog or newsletter (27 percent) and adaptive learning technology (12 percent).
Company size, and the resulting issues in terms of co-ordinating training across workforces of varying size and geographical distribution, is evidently an important factor in the types of compliance training methods used. Online self-guided courses are most frequently used at larger companies, with all mega-cap respondents saying their company uses that tool, compared with 85 percent of those at large caps, 80 percent at mid-caps and 69 percent at small caps. Thirty-one percent of mega-cap respondents say their company uses adaptive learning technology, compared with 18 percent of those at large caps, 5 percent of small caps and just 2 percent of mid-caps.
Similarly, 73 percent of respondents at mega-caps say their company uses online educational resources, compared with 56 percent of those at large caps, 58 percent at mid-caps and 52 percent at small caps.
Respondents at small caps are most likely to cite live (either in-person or online) presentations (63 percent), with just 42 percent of respondents at mega-caps reporting that their company uses such methods.
Respondents based in Europe more frequently say their company uses live (either in-person or online) presentations (68 percent) than do those in Canada (56 percent) or the US (55 percent).
