Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence for investor relations
Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to reinvent the practice of investor relations. Today’s IR professionals are tasked with more responsibilities than ever, acting as their organization’s messaging center and working cross-functionally to ensure the corporate story is resonating across all channels, and with all stakeholders.
AI technology can now be leveraged to automate time-consuming and tedious work and seamlessly meet compliance, enabling IROs to focus on more strategic initiatives. Comprising global IROs and finance leaders, working group contributors reported that a perceived learning curve and knowledge around AI remain top barriers to adopting the technology.
When it comes to AI adoption, one thing is clear: IR professionals now understand the impact the technology can have on their work and are ready to embrace its uses. The majority of our workshop contributors reported that they are currently learning about and experimenting with AI and its applications to better understand how it can have an impact within their organizations. Whether that’s to compile market intelligence, summarize meeting notes, prepare for analyst and investor Q&A, generate new ideas or understand investor sentiment, today’s IROs are beginning to tap into generative AI to streamline workflows, and are confident about its ability to drive efficiency across their teams.
It’s crucial to keep in mind that generative AI technology cannot replace IR professionals – rather, it has the power to allow them to focus on building relationships and strengthening C-suite messaging, functions that are increasingly critical in today’s unpredictable business environment.
Know the techIR professionals need not strive to be experts in AI. Rather, in 2024, they should prioritize learning more about the technology, including how to write prompts and differentiate between private and public AI models, in order to remain competitive within their profession and better tell their organization’s story.
With this in mind, IROs are still weighing concerns of security and safe use, and the AI working group reported security and privacy as IROs’ top challenge as they look to implement AI technology. Moving forward, it’s clear IR professionals now require guidance on how best to leverage this technology to make a difference in their organization.
As AI becomes a critical skill to adopt in the coming years, staying ahead of the curve is crucial to success.
