Companies are most inclined to meet with their top shareholders during the off-season. When IROs are asked how they decide which investors to engage with off-season, size of shareholdings account for three in 10 of all mentions. The next most-prioritized factor is to engage with the investors that are most engaged with the company. In this, IR teams wish to cultivate off-season relationships with investors that are most interested in having such a relationship with the company. Other notable criteria include wishing to engage with investors the company has targeted for new or additional investment and the biggest investors in term of assets under management.
Regionally, North American companies further prioritize the main shareholders, European companies give more priority to assets under management and more Asian IROs say they wish to engage with all investors. There is little variation according to cap size, save that more IROs at larger companies wish to engage with all investors off-season.
