While more men in IR come from other corporate departments or capital markets backgrounds, more women have always worked in IR or come from other backgrounds. The greatest difference is the number who come from corporate finance, with 36 percent of men having this background compared with just 21 percent of women.
Women in IR are more professionally qualified than men. The majority of female IR professionals have undergone IR association training and one in five has a sustainability diploma. Just 27 percent of men in IR have formal IR training while nearly six in 10 have no professional training or qualifications.
